Globally, 1 in 10 children lives with a disability, including 1 in 12 under the age of five, highlighting the urgent need for early support and inclusion.
According to WHO and leading global studies, developmental disabilities affect a significant portion of the world’s child population. Among children under the age of five, an estimated 52.9 million are living with developmental challenges, representing 8.4% of this age group — approximately 1 in every 12 children.
When looking at the broader age range of 0–19 years, the numbers are even more striking. Over 240 to 250 million children and young people globally have some form of disability, meaning roughly 1 in every 10 children is impacted.
